Officers were called to the unit on Charlestown Road in Charlestown, south of Newcastle, just after midnight Tuesday after the teenager was found unresponsive, allegedly by his father. The teenager, believed to be the 24-year-old man’s cousin, was dead by the time officers arrived, police said. Just an hour after making the grim discovery police arrested the teenager’s cousin at a carpark about 30 minutes northwest. The man was later discharged and taken to Belmont police station where he was charged with murder. An investigation is under way into how the boy died as police piece together what happened inside the unit.
